About
the name Alpha Draconis
Alpha Draconis is a star in the constellation Draco the Dragon.
The dragon image above is an artistic representation of that
constellation. The yellow diamonds and red eye represent the
primary stars of the constellation. Alpha Draconis, also known as
Thuban, is the yellow and white star burst in the tail. Alpha
Draconis is not actually the brightest star in Draco, but it does have
historical significance. Due to a wobbling motion of the Earth,
Alpha Draconis, not Polaris, was the Northern Star around 6000 years ago
(during the era of the Egyptians).
